ALL AGES PROGRAM

Summer Reading Program 2023: Find your Voice

The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach is ready to help kids, teens, and adults engage with educational and entertaining activities this summer. The two-month program takes place June 1 – July 31, 2023, and features an array of free reading, learning, and entertainment for all ages. Unless otherwise noted, library programs are made possible from the generous support of the West Palm Beach Library Foundation.

ADULTS PROGRAMS:

Genealogy:

Join the Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County as they host a series of workshops on how to best dive into your family history:

Let’s Get Started: You will learn about online resources and how to navigate them.

Vitally Important: You will be going over birth, marriage, and death records and how to record it within your research.

Marching Orders: They will be explaining how to look at military records and old country records.

Preserving Your Past: As technology changes, so do the ways we can preserve our personal history. Join us to learn more about how digital storage has changed and how you can keep your memories and voice intact for future generations. Learn how the library can help.

Finding Your Voice Through Photography:

A picture is worth 1,000 words, join @NajiDesigns to help you find your voice through photography and Videography with a series of workshops: 

Let’s Create: Learn how to use your camera, lighting, and angles to convey your message. No camera? Bring your smartphone.

Let’s Polish: Learn how to use your editing and polishing to convey your message. No camera? Bring your smartphone. Intermediate computer skills and registration are required.

Opera:

Join The Palm Beach Opera as they host a series of workshops on telling stories through music for 400 years, transferring the story from a literary source to the operatic stage, singing for well-being and the opera in America in the twenty-first century.

Millennials Ruin Bob Ross

A millennial is a person generally born in the 80s or 90s, known for ruining many aspects of society. We’ve ruined a book club and now we’re coming for Bob Ross. Enjoy this twist on a classic with local artist Nickie Hennevelt! Join Hennevelt as she guides participants through a Bob Ross acrylic painting,

with a twist!

Women in the Workforce: “Finding Your Voice Through Journaling and Self-Reflection"

Activate your inner potential with Transformational Coach and Dean of Science at Valencia College, Dr. Anitza San Miguel, as she shares her work and insights into reflective journaling.

TEEN PROGRAMS:

Teen Small Group Tutoring: Math

For teens entering grades 6-12 in August. Get extra help in 45-minute small group tutoring sessions with a certified teacher. Teens entering grades 6-12 may choose one session per week.

 

Small Group Tutoring: Reading

For teens entering grades 6-12 in August. Get extra help in 45-minute small group tutoring sessions with a certified teacher. Teens entering grades 6-12 may choose one session per week.

“Get That Job” Workshop for Graduates

High school and college graduates are invited for this hands-on workshop covering resumes, job markets, interviewing skills and more with Career Consultant Angela Wing-Allen. Free lunch and materials provided.

Teen Art Class

For teens entering grades 6-12 in August. Join artist Dalhia Perryman for a fun and informative painting class. Teens and tweens will discover their own creativity and make a unique piece of art to take home.

Small Group Tutoring: Reading

For kids entering grades 1-5 in August. Get extra help in reading in 45-minute, small group tutoring sessions with a certified teacher. Children entering grades 1-5 may choose up to two sessions per week.

KidSpace News

For kids entering grades 1-5 in August. Be part of the KidSpace News team! Learn the ins and outs of producing a news program from writing scripts and on-screen reporting to behind-the-scenes technology and more.

Music and Dance

Creative Movement Ballet: Join Ms. Danielle as preschoolers explore natural and expressive movement through song, dance, and play while learning age-appropriate ballet technique.

Jazz Dance for Kids: Join an instructor from Soul Movement for a fun way to learn how to cultivate your natural rhythm through jazz dance.

African Drumming with Abasi: Join Spoken Word Poet and African Percussionist Abasi “Manblack” Hanif in an exciting journey into the heart and soul of Africa through music. Children will explore basic drumming techniques while learning about the history of the instruments.

Summer Break Soccer

Kids ages 2-5 will learn how to play soccer through interactive stories with a certified coach.

​

Family Fun 

Family Movie: Families with kids of all ages watch a fun movie. Coloring sheets and crayons will be provided.

Family Storytime: For families with children up to age 5. Join Children’s Librarian Ms. Jin for music and movement, songs, rhymes, art, and of course, great books in this family storytime.

Family Book Club: Be part of our book club just for families. Read Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library together as a family and come back to discuss the book and do fun activities.
